I am running Windows 7 Ultimate (I am sure that's my first issue, but I must). I recently installed ted and found I am unable to check the box for 'add ted to the system tray' since it is grayed out. I've done several google searches and look over the forum, but not found anyone else that has seem to have this issue.

This is because you are running ted in 64 bit java. The external library we use to display the tray icon does not support 64 bit system. We are going to fix this in the near future. A quick solution for now would be to install 32 bit java on your system.

I actually have both 32-bit and 64-bit installed, it appears my default path is pointing to the 64-bit library. I will point it to the 32-bit and see how that goes.

Is there any eta on this roel? I am getting annoyed with having to leave ted open on the taskbar when i have some many other apps open... and from time to time i close it by mistake - i would like to have it open in the background (system tray) as i used to on my x86 installations...

OK, how do you create a default path to the 32bit version of Java on Windows 7 64bit, while having both versions available? I had both installed but was unable to find a solution that points to the 32bit version of Java that would unghost the "Add ted to the system tray". I had to completly uninstall the 64bit version of Java to make the option available.

Also, it would be nice to have a option to run at startup.

This was a big annoyance for me too. I didn't want to force use of the 32-bit jre for all my applications, so I fixed this on my computer (win 7 x64) by creating a simple batch script:


That of course works by itself, but leaves the console window from java. So to fix this I used the "Bat To Exe Converter" program to convert the .bat into an exe as a "Ghost" app (run without console window) - problem solved. That exe is now in my startup folder.

Just thought I would share in case anyone else is looking for the same thing.
