When I updated to the latest v0.972 release, I once again encountered a Java error at startup about "java.lang.unsatisfiedlinkerror: no tray in java.library.path" blah, blah.
So I did a diff with my previous version and saw that several of the Linux files weren't present in the new version, including the "libtray.so" file.
Copying all ./ted_v9715/linux/x86/*.so into ./ted_v972/linux/x86/ solved this issue for me. Looks like these were left out of the latest release (I think this happened before, as well.)
Hope this helps.

Same issue seen on another linux host.
Workaround reported above addresses issue.
Additional workarounds :
add 'noTray' to end of command line when launching application
Perhaps future versions of this application can have those shared object files included by default?
OR
"Extra | Preferences | Look and Feel | _ Add ted to the sysem tray (restart needed)" is DISabled by default for linux users.
At least then the program can start.
