Make sure you've installed the latest version of Java. If you don't have the latest version you can get it here. If ted still won't start let us know so we can, hopefully, fix this for the next release of ted.
What ted can do is to monitor rss feeds of shows for you to see if new episodes of your shows are released. When so, ted will download the torrent for this episode (by using the url in the feed) and pass this torrent to your torrent client. This torrent client (Azureus, uTorrent, etc) will then download the actual episode.
The actual downloading of the episode isn't done by ted but by the torrent client! The progress bar in ted has nothing to do with the actual downloading of the episode, but it shows how far ted is searching the feeds. If you want to see the progress of your download, look for it in your torrent client.
This error can occur because of several reasons:
If it's an older episode you're lookin for it might be that it won't be present in the feeds anymore. Ted was intentionally made to find the latest released episodes. Older episodes might not be present in the feeds ted uses to find these episode. And if an episode isn't in the feeds ted won't find it. Check a site like TV.comto see which episode is currently aired. When you're searching for the newest released episode of a show and ted still doesn't find it check at first the feed to see if it is present in it, it should be but you never know. If so check the log of ted to see why ted hasn't downloaded this episode. It could be that the torrent didn't pass the filters. If the episode wasn't listed in the feed you've to wait untill somebody will release this episode. For popular shows this shouldn't take too long.
Remember that ted don't actually download the episodes for you, it downloads the torrent, and your torrent client will download the actual video. A video should be approximately 175MB large for a 30 minute show (20 minutes without the commercials). If it's only a few Kb large you're probably trying to watch the torrent. Also make sure you've installed the latest codecs for playing the video's. You can install the most common codecs at once by using a codec pack like the K-Lite codec pack. By using a program like G-Spot you can test if the necessary codecs for playing a video are installed. Your video can also be corrupt and that's why it won't play (properly). There is nothing ted can do about this since we don't have control about the episodes that are released. Just download another version of the episode and see if that works.
