hey all

my config:
mac mini 1.83ghz core 2 duo, plenty of ram
HDTV @ 1080p

when the ted window is being drawn on screen I get a bright pixel drawn in the lower left corner of my display. If I go to fullscreen mode in quicktime its especially noticeable. If I hide ted, it goes away. If I put ted in a different space, it goes away. What is going on?

Ive attached a picture of this anomaly. You can see it almost even with the bottom of the window being drawn, hugging the left hand side:

this is really weird behaviour. I cannot reproduce it on my mac.

which version of mac osx do you use? and can you check the version of java you're using? see http://www.javatester.org/version.html
make sure you've got the latest one installed (1.5.0_16 is what i have)

hey there

i know. it completely weirded me out. ive never seen anything like this. thought i had a dead pixel, then thought i had a bad logic board, then discovered its a software issue. soooo odd.

10.5.5, all the most recent updates including java.

and the issue is completely reproducible, every single time. absolutely no 3P software either... completely stock from the box.

I have the same issue, Mac Os 10.5.5 (9F33)
Java version, 1.5.0_16
The pixel is over the screen, until you hide TED, even is visible viewing the tv chapters, at full screen.

Very frigtening, y though i have a dead pixel incident, until i made a zoon and see that the dead pixel zoomed too.

And only visible when TED windows apears.

I noticed this today also. I've had it for ages on my laptop but just assumed it was a faulty pixel that was intermittently getting stuck on white.

Then I got an external display and noticed it in exactly the same place which of course made me suspicious so I started quitting apps and as soon as I quit ted it disappeared.

It only appears on the primary workspace, and not all the time. Haven't figured out what event happens what causes it to appear.

I have the same problem too, bright white pixel, always on the left edge of the screen, always at a different height. It really likes the pixel on the top, but usually it's just random. Disappears when hiding, quitting, etc. Using a late 2008 MBP, with all the latest updates. Reproducable. It disappers when, for example, I make a movie full screen - but only for the second of the fade-in, and after the fade is done, it comes again.

So, over a year later now... I recently installed Ted on OSX and found that I have the same problem. And I think there are more people with this problem on macrumors.com.

I've finally found a way to reproduce it.

Running OSX 10.6.2, Java -version:
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04-248-10M3025)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.3-b01-101, mixed mode)

If I run ted, open system preferences and move my Dock from the left to the bottom (or bottom to left), the dot will appear.

Now to find out why.

This dot appears even in the demo program for the library we're using.

As a workaround you should be able to remove by un-checking:

Preferences -> Look and Feel -> add ted to the system tray

and restarting ted.

Hm, that's annoying. So this is an open source library? Any idea what could be causing it?

I run ted with dockless, a tool that enables a little hack so it won't show up in my dock, so if it's not in the menu bar then it's no of use to me. TBH I don't think the OSX Dock is the most efficient view of open applications/windows, and I just can't deal with background programs showing up there as well.

hi,

I had the same problem, a bright white pixel in the upper left corner when using fullscreen. And it has been annoying me for a couple of months now. But yesterday I found the cause. Whenever TED is running in the tray the pixel will appear when using fullscreen. When I remove TED from the tray (but still open) the pixel is gone. So there seems to be a problem with minimizing TED. To me it looks like instead of closing the window and only run in the tray, the TED window will stay open, but is minimized to one single pixel.

(I'm running OSX 10.6.4)

While I noted the icon for edit was available, I didnt actually try to edit a post until now. I see that while I can enter the edit screen, the changes are not accepted. Sorry to bother...
