Open the advanced preferences window by clicking Edit -> Preferences... in the main menu of ted and select he Advanced tab.

You can set a time out, in seconds, for the time ted tries to connect with torrent websites. This will keep ted from getting stuck while retrieving torrents.
There are two ways ted can handle the minimum amount of seeders you can set for a show. The first option (more than minimum seeders) is to stop looking after a torrent is found that has more than the minimum seeders set for the show. The other option (the most seeders) will check all torrents and download the one with the most seeders. More seeders mean that the will be downloaded faster but because all torrents have to be checked, this option will significantly slow down the searching process.
In this textfield file extensions can be added of files that ted shouldn't download. The most common, zip and rar, are already defined. This will keep ted from downloading torrents which contain files with these extensions.
